The world is filled with amazing mysteries that we small minded humans do not understand. From black holes to quantum leaps to love between a man and woman. The created world is packed with puzzles rarely understood by mankind.
The gospel of Grace in Christ is a mystery as Paul states in Ephesians 5 and compares it to the aforementioned marriage-love between a man and woman, it’s profound.
Yet this gospel that saves sinners is so simple a child can understand it. God saves undeserving people through faith in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the God-man, the provision for the lost.
Further still the bible is one book that could be plumbed for eighty years in a single life and still never reach the bottom. Yet again it’s message is plain and simple enough for a kid to get. Humanity has a problem and was the cause of the problem. God the Creator is the solution. He rescues. God is big. Mankind is small. God is Good. Man is not. Man needs God. And no one can earn this favor. It’s a free gift so no one may brag. Ephesians 2:9
Sadly as a we age many grow hard in their heart and forget God’s grace. Countless things distract: worry, doubt, immorality, selfishness, all crowd out what God reveals in the world and especially in his word.
This is why we need Jesus. He is the one who not only lived an exemplary life to emulate, (1st Peter 2:22) but also went to the cross for the sins of the world. (1st John 2:1-2) He did not merely die and stay dead, but resurrected, defeating both sin and death. And that anyone who trusts in what he did is rescued from his or her sin. (Romans 10:9) We get Jesus’s righteousness and he takes our sin. This mystery is great! But does anyone really want a God they can fully understand? Doubt it.
